[Exhibition at Sea] Notice on Visiting Malaysia Fishing Exhibition with the group

2023-03-18

Fisheries in Malaysia include fishing and fish farming. In fishing, most of the fish in the sea is caught and most of the fish in rivers is raised in captivity. Most fish raised in captivity are freshwater fish because they are easy to raise in lakes.

In the coming years, Malaysia will increasingly rely on farmed fish to feed growing local demand and earn more foreign exchange, especially from the ornamental fish industry.

Aquaculture has developed rapidly since its emergence in Malaysia in the 1920s and is now a development in the form of brackish aquaculture, freshwater ponds and mariculture, including shellfish, freshwater fish and Marine fish, as a means of increasing local production to ensure food security and increase export earnings. The average annual growth rate of aquaculture in Malaysia is 8.7%. Aquaculture has become a major source of food in Malaysia. The total production in the first 2010 was 373,156 metric tons with a total value of RM600 billion, an increase of 26.7% over 2009. Under the government's plan to transform the economy, seaweed farming and the Intergrated Cage Aquaculture industry are also largely led by the private sector. The identification of several Marine areas in the country, including Southern Malaysia Johor, Malacca, East Malaysia, Ponoru, Langkawi and Diao Man Island, is estimated to produce 10,000 tonnes worth RM150 million by 2020. With a total farming area of 198.8 hectares, three species of fish with high export potential are raised, namely, Seabass, Seabass and African fish.
