The predecessor of the Guangdong Branch of the China Fisheries Association was established in the 1950s. At the beginning of 1976, the Guangdong Fisheries Association was formally established, and the former director and deputy director of the Department of Fisheries of Guangdong Province served as the chairman and vice president of the association. At the beginning of 2000, according to the provisions of the regulations on the management of associations, it applied for re-registration with the provincial Civil Affairs Department and became a social organization with independent legal personality in the new period.

The Guangdong Fisheries Association held a general assembly on April 22, 2021, producing the fourth council, with the support of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the assembly elected Wu Qiaer, deputy director of the South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, as the president of the association, and Deng Jiazhuo, general manager of Guangdong Guangyuan Fisheries Group Co., LTD., as the executive vice president and legal person. There are 73 members of the association, including fisheries research institutes, aquatic technology extension agencies, leading enterprises in the fishery industry, etc.
